Daily shift checklist for lab managers using management software

Managers who open the same three dashboards every morning catch bottlenecks before patients call. Here is a repeatable checklist.

Software only helps if managers look at the same indicators every day. A ten-minute opening routine prevents afternoon chaos at reception and the approver desk.

Start of shift

  • Pending approvals — anything stuck overnight?
  • Visits with balance due that may block portal release.
  • Overdue reports beyond your stated TAT.
  • Instrument or section backlog if you track by department.

During the day

Bench staff should save result entry incrementally. Reception should not register visits without catalog tests. Approvers should clear the queue before peak collection hours when patients arrive for printouts.

End of shift

Reconcile cash to Payments. Print pending summary. Note visits waiting on panel credit approval. Leave a one-line handover for the next shift in your internal log — the software shows the numbers; humans still coordinate exceptions.

Weekly and monthly
